Profile
Inis Oírr (Inisheer) is the smallest and most easterly of the Aran Islands, lying off the coast of County Galway at the mouth of Galway Bay. It is an Irish-speaking island of limestone pavement, stone-walled fields, sandy beaches and clear water, small enough to explore on foot or by bike in a day.
Among its features are a ruined castle on the high ground, old church sites and a shipwreck on the eastern shore. Ferries run from the Galway and Clare mainland and from the neighbouring islands.
