Balor Otherworld

Balor Otherworld is a storytelling and cultural experience based in Shannon, County Clare, dedicated to bringing Ireland’s mythology, folklore and history to life. Rather than a fixed site or park, it is a guided experience led by a storyteller who weaves Irish legends into walks, hikes, events and short films across the west of Ireland and beyond.

Visitors can join guided walks and story walks in some of Clare’s best-known landscapes, including the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher and Lough Derg, with a route around Shannon that finishes at the historic Hastings Cottage. Castles, abbeys, ancient forts and churches can be woven into tours, and the guides tailor each outing to the group and adapt to the weather when needed. Custom storytelling tours can also be arranged in other parts of Ireland.

Alongside its live events, Balor Otherworld has produced short films drawn from Irish stories, featuring figures such as Biddy Early, the herbalist accused of witchcraft, Saint Brigid, and the eccentric campaigner known as Honest Tom Steele. Storytelling sessions and historical talks can be booked for weddings, birthdays, corporate gatherings and school groups. The experience is family-friendly and dog-friendly, with free parking, and forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way.
