Blackrock Wetlands

Blackrock Wetlands lie at Haggardstown in County Louth, on the margins of Dundalk Bay. The bay is one of Ireland’s more significant sites for wintering waterbirds, its mudflats and saltmarsh supporting large flocks of waders and wildfowl, and the wetlands here form part of that wider habitat.

For birdwatchers, autumn and winter are the busiest seasons, though the shoreline is worth walking at any time of year. Bring binoculars, keep to the paths and give feeding and roosting birds plenty of space.
