Blacksod Lighthouse

Blacksod Lighthouse stands at the tip of the Mullet Peninsula in Blacksod, County Mayo, a squat granite tower overlooking Blacksod Bay and the Atlantic approaches.

The station is remembered for the weather readings sent from here in June 1944, which influenced the timing of the D-Day landings. Alongside the lighthouse itself there is a cafe, making it a natural place to pause at the end of a long peninsula drive. The setting is exposed and the views wide, so dress for the wind.
