Claggan

Claggan, at Clagganmountain in County Mayo, lies in the open uplands and bogland of the Erris region in the north west of the county. This is broad, sparsely settled country of mountain, blanket bog and river, with the kind of long views that characterise inland Mayo.

It appeals to walkers, photographers and anyone drawn to wide, quiet landscapes rather than visitor facilities. Ground can be wet and exposed, so proper boots, warm clothing and a map are worth having. The coast at Blacksod Bay and the Mullet Peninsula are within reach for a longer day out.
