Derreen Gardens

Derreen Gardens lie on the Beara Peninsula in County Kerry, on ground sheltered by the Atlantic and warmed by the Gulf Stream. The mild, damp climate allows subtropical planting to thrive alongside native woodland, with rhododendrons, tree ferns and mature specimen trees along winding paths down to the water.

Walking trails lead through the grounds with views out over the inlets and hills, and there is plenty of birdlife in the woods. Wear shoes suited to soft ground, and check seasonal opening hours before visiting.
