Profile
Duiske Abbey is a medieval Cistercian foundation in the centre of Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny, beside the river Barrow. It is among the more substantial monastic remains in the south-east and, unusually, the church continues in use for worship.
Inside, visitors find carved stonework and medieval floor tiles, along with the tall, austere proportions typical of Cistercian building. The surrounding streets retain the shape of the settlement that grew up around the monastery. Entry is generally free, and the abbey pairs naturally with a riverside walk and the town’s woollen mill and craft shops.
