Profile
Fort Dunree Military Museum occupies a coastal battery on the western shore of Lough Swilly, near Buncrana in County Donegal. The fort guarded one of Ireland’s great natural deep-water anchorages, and its gun emplacements, tunnels and buildings now house exhibitions on its military history.
The headland setting is as much of a draw as the museum, with clifftop walks, wide views across the lough to the Fanad shore and plenty of birdlife. There are refreshments on site and space to make an afternoon of the visit.
