Galway Cathedral

Galway Cathedral stands on Nun’s Island in the heart of Galway City, County Galway, a large twentieth-century cathedral built in cut limestone and crowned by a green copper dome that has become part of the city’s skyline. Formally the Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas, it is the principal Catholic church of the Diocese of Galway.

Inside, visitors find a wide vaulted interior with mosaics, stained glass and a pipe organ, and the building is used regularly for services, choral music and recitals. It sits beside the River Corrib, within walking distance of the city centre.
