Genealogy Service National Library of Ireland

The Genealogy Service at the National Library of Ireland is based in Dublin, County Dublin, and offers free guidance for anyone researching Irish family history. Advisers help visitors work out where to start, which records are likely to survive for a given surname or parish, and how to use the Library’s collections.

The service draws on parish registers, newspapers, estate papers, directories and other holdings. Coming prepared with names, approximate dates and a county or townland will make a session far more productive than arriving with a surname alone.
