Hill of Tara

The Hill of Tara, in the townland of Castleboy, County Meath, is one of Ireland’s most significant archaeological landscapes and the traditional seat of the high kings. Grass-covered earthworks, enclosures and the standing Lia Fáil stone mark a ceremonial site used across many centuries.

Much of the meaning lies in the layout rather than in tall ruins, so a guided tour or interpretive visit repays the effort. The hilltop offers long views over the surrounding counties, and there is usually a visitor centre and refreshments nearby during the season.
