Profile
Inch Wildfowl Reserve sits beside Lough Swilly at Burt, County Donegal, on reclaimed ground behind the embankments near Inch Island. The shallow lake and surrounding wet grassland form one of the county’s most important sites for waterbirds.
Autumn and winter bring large numbers of geese, swans and ducks, including whooper swans and Greenland white-fronted geese, along with waders on the adjoining shoreline. Roadside and hide viewpoints allow birdwatching without disturbing the flocks; bring binoculars and warm clothing.
