Irish Jewish Museum

The Irish Jewish Museum is housed in a former synagogue in Portobello, the south Dublin neighbourhood once known as “Little Jerusalem” for the Jewish families who settled there.

Its collection covers the religious, social and commercial life of Ireland’s Jewish community — photographs, documents, household objects and ritual items — with the preserved synagogue upstairs the emotional centre of the visit. The museum is small and personal rather than grand, and all the better for it, telling a strand of Irish history that many visitors know little about. Opening arrangements can be limited, so check before calling.
