Kilclooney Dolmen

Kilclooney Dolmen stands at Kilclooney More in south-west County Donegal, between Ardara and Portnoo. It is a portal tomb from the Neolithic period, with a large capstone raised on upright stones, and it is among the more impressive megalithic monuments in the north-west.

The site is reached on foot across open ground near the road, so sturdy footwear is sensible in wet weather. There is little in the way of facilities, which is part of the appeal: the tomb sits in bare, rolling countryside much as it has for thousands of years.
