Killary Fjord Shellfish

Set on the shores of Killary at Bunowen in County Galway, Killary Fjord Shellfish is a working aquaculture operation in one of Connemara’s most striking stretches of water. The deep, sheltered inlet and its clean Atlantic tides make it well suited to growing shellfish such as mussels.

Visitors come to see how the ropes are tended and harvested, to learn about the daily rhythm of farming the sea, and to taste the results. It is an easy stop to pair with a walk or boat trip along the harbour, and a good introduction to the food culture of Ireland’s western seaboard.
