Profile
Kilmainham Gaol stands in Kilmainham, County Dublin, on the western side of the city, and is one of Ireland’s most significant historic sites. The former prison is now a museum open to visitors by guided tour.
Its cells and central hall are closely bound up with the story of Irish nationalism and independence, and guides set out how the building was used across the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Tours are popular and tickets are usually booked well in advance.
