Profile
Lough Gowna is a sprawling, island-dotted lake in County Longford, near the headwaters of the River Erne. Its many bays, reed beds and wooded shorelines make it a well-known coarse angling water, with fishing from the bank and from small boats.
Beyond the fishing, the lake and the quiet roads around it are pleasant for walking, birdwatching and photography, and the surrounding countryside gives a good sense of the lakelands of the Irish midlands.
