Profile
Lough Mask is a large limestone lake on the western edge of County Galway and neighbouring Mayo, reached here via Earls Island. Its indented shoreline, islands and clear water have long made it one of the best known wild brown trout fisheries in Ireland.
The lake draws anglers through the season, particularly for traditional wet-fly and dapping methods from a boat, while the surrounding countryside of stone walls and low hills is worth exploring in its own right. Local boat hire and guidance are advisable, as the shallows and rocks demand care.
