Profile
Maharees Beach at Fahamore, County Kerry, runs along the narrow sandy spit joining the Maharees peninsula to the mainland north of Castlegregory. Long stretches of sand and dunes face the Atlantic on one side and calmer water on the other.
The reliable wind makes it one of Kerry’s favoured places for kitesurfing and windsurfing, and operators in the area run lessons and hire out gear. Swimmers, walkers and birdwatchers use the beach too. Respect the dune system, which is fragile, and take local advice on currents before entering the water.
