Profile
Martry Mill stands on the River Blackwater near Kells in County Meath, a watermill of the traditional kind once common along Ireland’s rivers.
It is among the small number of Irish mills where the machinery and waterwheel survive, and it offers an unusually direct look at how grain was milled before industrial flour production. Visits centre on the mill building, the river setting and the workings themselves. Opening is limited and arrangements can change, so contact the mill in advance to confirm whether it is open and whether tours need to be booked.
