Profile
The Michael J Quill Centre at Kilgarvan, County Kerry, commemorates Michael J. Quill, the Kilgarvan-born trade union leader who emigrated and became a prominent figure in the transport workers’ movement in New York.
The centre tells the story of his early life in this corner of Kerry, of emigration from the district and of the labour struggles he became known for. It sits in the valley between Kenmare and the Roughty river country, and makes a quiet stop for visitors interested in social history and the Irish emigrant experience.
