Profile
The Rock of Cashel rises above the town of Cashel in County Tipperary, a limestone outcrop crowned by one of the most complete groups of medieval ecclesiastical buildings in Ireland. The site was a seat of the kings of Munster before being granted to the Church in the twelfth century.
The cluster includes a round tower, a Romanesque chapel, a Gothic cathedral and a hall for the vicars choral, all enclosed within a walled precinct. Guided tours and interpretive displays explain the layers of royal and religious history, and the views over the Golden Vale are exceptional.
