Roonagh Pier

Roonagh Pier lies west of Louisburgh on the County Mayo coast, at the edge of Clew Bay and the open Atlantic. It is best known as an embarkation point, with passenger ferries running from here to the offshore islands, and it is the usual jumping-off place for a day trip out to sea.

Even without a sailing booked, the pier is worth the short drive for the views across the water towards the islands and the hills behind. Bring a windproof jacket; the exposure that makes the outlook so open also makes it breezy.
