Ross Castle

Ross Castle sits on the shore of Lough Leane just outside Killarney, County Kerry, within Killarney National Park. The tower house, once a stronghold of the O’Donoghue family, stands beside the water with wooded parkland behind it and the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks rising in the distance.

Guided tours of the interior run seasonally, and the lakeside setting is as much of a draw as the building itself. Boat trips to Innisfallen Island depart from beside the castle, and walking and cycling paths link the site back into Killarney town and the wider park.
