Profile
The Saltee Islands lie a short distance off Kilmore Quay in County Wexford and are among Ireland’s best known seabird sanctuaries. Great Saltee and Little Saltee rise from the sea south of the harbour, their cliffs and slopes crowded in spring and early summer with gannets, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and puffins.
Visits are made by boat from Kilmore Quay in settled weather, usually as a day trip. Bird watchers, photographers and anyone drawn to wild coastal places will find the crossing well worth making. Check sailings and landing arrangements before you travel.
