Profile
Sandymount Strand is the broad tidal beach along the southern shore of Dublin Bay, a short distance from the city centre at Sandymount. At low tide the sea withdraws a remarkable distance, leaving a vast expanse of firm wet sand that draws walkers, joggers and dog owners.
The strand is bound up with Irish literature through its appearances in James Joyce’s Ulysses. Views stretch across the bay to Howth Head and the Poolbeg chimneys. Tides come in quickly across the flats, so keep an eye on the water when walking out.
