Profile
The Slea Head Famine Cottages and Sheep Dog Trials are at Fahan, County Kerry, on the Slea Head Drive west of Dingle, overlooking the Blasket Islands and the Atlantic.
The site preserves old stone cottages of the kind lived in during the years of the Great Famine, giving a picture of rural life on the peninsula in the nineteenth century. Demonstrations of working sheepdogs show how flocks are managed on the steep ground of this coastline. It combines heritage and farming life in one stop on one of Ireland’s best-known coastal drives.
