Profile
St Patrick’s Cross stands at Carndonagh on the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal, one of the important early Christian carved stones in the north-west. Also known as the Donagh Cross, it is worked with interlace and figure carving in a style from the early centuries of the Irish church, and is flanked by smaller carved pillars.
The site sits beside the church in the town and is open to view. For anyone following Ireland’s early monastic heritage, it is among the most striking pieces of stone carving on Inishowen.
