Profile
The Hunt Museum occupies the elegant eighteenth-century Custom House on the banks of the Shannon in Limerick city, County Limerick, and holds one of Ireland’s finest collections of art and antiquities.
Gathered by John and Gertrude Hunt, the collection spans prehistoric and medieval Irish material, religious artefacts, decorative arts and works by well-known European artists, displayed in a way that encourages close looking rather than rushing. There are changing exhibitions alongside the permanent galleries, plus a café and shop overlooking the river. It is comfortably the leading museum visit in Limerick and easily managed in a couple of hours.
