Profile
The Jeanie Johnston is a tall ship moored on the Liffey quays in Dublin City, a replica of a nineteenth-century vessel that carried emigrants from Ireland across the Atlantic during and after the Great Famine.
Guided tours take visitors below deck, where the cramped conditions of a famine crossing are recreated and the stories of individual passengers are told. It is a compact but affecting visit, and one of the clearest ways to understand what emigration by sailing ship actually meant. The ship sits within walking distance of the Custom House and the docklands.
