Profile
The Monk’s Fishing House is a small stone building on the river at Cong, County Mayo, associated with the monastic community at Cong Abbey. Built out over the water, it allowed the monks to fish directly through an opening in the floor, so the catch could be raised without leaving shelter.
It is reached on the riverside walk through the abbey grounds and woodland, a short and easy stroll from the village centre. The ruin is compact but unusual, and photographs well from the far bank.
