Profile
Valentia Island lies off the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, reached by bridge from Portmagee or by ferry from Renard Point. It is one of the most westerly inhabited points in Ireland and a natural base for exploring the Skellig coast.
The island holds a strong mix of landscape and heritage: cliffs and sea views at Bray Head and Geokaun, sheltered coves and swimming spots, slate quarrying remains and a long association with transatlantic communications. Roads are narrow, so allow time to take it slowly.
