Wild Nephin National Park

Wild Nephin National Park, with its visitor centre at Ballycroy in County Mayo, protects one of the largest expanses of Atlantic blanket bog in western Europe.

The park takes in the bogland of the Owenduff catchment and the Nephin Beg mountain range, a remote upland with almost no roads or settlement. It is home to red deer, otters, and birds including golden plover and greenland white-fronted geese, and its lack of light pollution makes it one of Ireland’s finest places for night skies. Waymarked trails and a boardwalk near the visitor centre give easy access, with longer walks for the well prepared.
