Aultaghreagh Cottage Garden

Aultaghreagh Cottage Garden is a one-acre flower garden set in the countryside near Dunmanway, in West Cork, County Cork. It looks out towards the Shehy Mountains and Nowen Hill, and has been developed by owners Christine and Leslie Wilson, who bought the cottage in 1990.

The garden is planted with more than a thousand varieties of flowers, shrubs, trees and bulbs, arranged across a series of distinct areas. Visitors can wander an informal woodland shade garden with paths threading through the trees, and pause by a large fish pond and waterfall edged by a rockery and willow bank. A living willow arbour offers a spot to sit and watch the fish, with water spilling over into a bog garden. Alongside the ornamental planting, the Wilsons grow produce in polytunnels and outdoor vegetable beds, together with a fruit cage and strawberry patch.

The garden is open to visitors from May to September. Admission is free, with guests invited to make a donation to a charity of their choice, and visits are arranged by appointment. It is a welcoming place for anyone who enjoys both flower gardens and productive kitchen gardening.
