Profile
Carrigaholt Sea Angling Centre is based at Glencarrig, just outside the fishing village of Carrigaholt on the Loop Head peninsula in County Clare. Sitting where the Shannon Estuary opens onto the Atlantic, the centre offers deep sea and charter angling for everyone from complete beginners to experienced sea anglers, either as a day trip or as a package combining fishing, accommodation and food.
Trips are run aboard a Lochin charter boat skippered by Luke Aston, who was brought up in a fishing family and has spent his working life at sea. The skipper can provide instruction along with rods, bait and tackle for those who need them, and the boat ranges from the sheltered waters of the estuary out past Loop Head into open sea. On the estuary, catches can include ray, conger, bass, dogfish and tope, while grounds off Loop Head yield cod, pollock, haddock, whiting, hake and plenty of mackerel.
Guest house accommodation is available on site at Glencarrig, with views across Loop Head, the west coast of Clare and, on a clear day, the Kerry mountains beyond the mouth of the Shannon. Free car parking is provided for visitors. Anyone planning a trip should contact the centre directly to check availability, current prices and sailing times.
