Charles Fort Military Fortress

Charles Fort is a large star-shaped coastal fortification in County Cork, built in the classic bastion style to guard the approaches to its harbour from the sea. Its angled ramparts and sweeping walls make it one of the most striking military sites in the south of the country.

Today it welcomes visitors to walk its ramparts, take in the views over the water and learn about its long history as a garrison. A café on site offers a place to rest, making it an easy half-day outing along the coast.
