English Language Ireland

English Language Ireland is a family-run English language school based at The Schoolhouse on O’Brien Road in Carlow town, County Carlow. Established in 2000 and directed by Ruth and Terry Coffey, it has spent more than two decades delivering English language programmes to students who travel to Ireland to study.

The school offers a broad range of courses for both adults and younger learners. Adult options include general English, academic English, one-to-one and home tuition, business and professional English, teacher training, and preparation for the University of Cambridge ESOL examinations. There are also courses that combine language study with activities such as golf, fishing, art, cookery, horse riding and hill walking. Junior programmes run over the summer and include intensive courses, full immersion and cultural visits, with junior centres operating between June and August.

English Language Ireland is recognised by ACELS, a service of Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), and is a member of Marketing English in Ireland (MEI). The school is also part of Carlow Tourism and Carlow Chamber of Commerce. Its approach centres on the needs of individual learners, with classes designed to build practical communication skills through a mix of interactive and structured teaching.
