Profile
Gordon D’Arcy Guided Burren Tours offers walks and field excursions through the Burren, the distinctive limestone landscape of County Clare. Based at Ballyvaughan in the north of the region, the tours are led by naturalist, author and environmental artist Gordon D’Arcy, who has worked in field science, illustration and education since the 1980s and has written several books on the Burren.
The Burren is known for the diversity packed into a relatively small area, and the tours reflect that range. Depending on your interests, an outing might focus on geology, wild flowers, archaeology, prehistoric sites, ring forts, birds, butterflies and moths, or marine life and fossils. D’Arcy draws on more than thirty years of guiding experience to bring visitors to places that reveal the character of the landscape and its long human history.
Tours are arranged flexibly to suit the group and the occasion. They can be tailored for anything from a couple of people to around twenty, and can run from a short walk of a couple of hours to outings spread across two days. This makes the experience suitable for casual visitors as well as those wanting a more in-depth exploration of the area’s natural and cultural heritage.
