Profile
Irish Herbal Roots is a herbalism experience based at Carran in the Burren region of County Clare, run by professional Irish herbalist Lisa Guinan, who has kept a private herbal practice and taught herbal medicine skills since 2008. It centres on the wild healing plants that grow in the hedgerows and stony landscape of the surrounding countryside, and on the traditional Irish medicine and folklore attached to them.
Visitors can join guided herb walks led along local country lanes and hedgerows, where native plants are identified and their folklore and uses explained. Alongside the walks, Lisa runs hands-on workshops on natural medicine making, demonstrating the full process from harvesting wild herbs to the finished product, such as balms, remedies for muscles and joints, cough elixirs and immune tonics.
Walks and workshops can be booked privately, either separately or combined, and tailored to the interests of the group. The setting is family-friendly with free parking. For current dates, availability and booking, contact Irish Herbal Roots directly through their website.
