Knappogue Medieval Castle Banquet

Knappogue Castle stands amid the rolling countryside of Quin in County Clare, a restored 15th-century tower house that hosts one of Ireland’s long-running medieval banquets. Built in the 1460s by the MacNamara clan, the castle has been carefully maintained and is operated as a visitor attraction, with a walled garden dating from 1817 and restored 19th-century drawing rooms adding to the sense of period atmosphere.

The medieval banquet is an evening experience that pairs a multi-course meal with traditional music and song. Guests are welcomed by the castle’s butler and ladies and offered a cup of honey mead on arrival, before taking their places at long oak tables lit by candlelight. Over the course of the meal, performers dressed in period costume provide harp and fiddle music together with choral singing, and the programme raises a toast to the Kings of Ireland while the butler recounts the castle’s history.

Banquets run seasonally and are popular, so booking ahead is advised, particularly for groups.
