Profile
Oak Ancestry is a professional genealogy and family history research service associated with Clarecastle, County Clare. It was founded by Marie Cahill, a genealogist born in County Clare who holds a Master’s Degree in the History of the Family from the University of Limerick and who has carried out research for clients of the Irish Ancestry Research Centre.
The service specialises in detailed Family Research Reports for people of Irish descent, tracing ancestral lines across all 32 counties of Ireland. Rather than simply listing names and addresses, the reports are written in a socially contextualised style, setting each family’s story within the wider circumstances of Irish history so that clients gain a fuller sense of how their ancestors lived at a particular time and place. Alongside research reports, Oak Ancestry offers forward-tracing work to help connect people with living Irish relatives, guidance on Irish citizenship by descent, ancestry tours, and genealogy gifts.
Marie Cahill’s work has included involvement in digitisation projects with Clare County Council, Clare Library and the Clare Heritage and Genealogy Research Centre, reflecting a particular depth of knowledge of records and heritage in the Clare region. Enquiries about research and reports can be made through the Oak Ancestry website at oakancestry.ie.
