Reddy's of Carlow

Reddy’s of Carlow was a traditional bar and restaurant at 67 Tullow Street, in the centre of Carlow town, County Carlow. Widely regarded as the oldest pub in County Carlow, it traced its origins to 1768, when it opened as a coaching inn serving travellers on the route between Dublin and Waterford. Over the following two and a half centuries the premises took on many roles, at various times housing stables, a malting house and even an undertaking business.

Run by three generations of the Reddy family, the pub built its reputation on home-cooked food alongside its bar. It was known for roast joints, homemade soups and desserts, with produce sourced locally, and it offered dining, private dining, takeaway and catering. The family aimed to give customers a warm welcome and a “home away from home” atmosphere in the historic heart of the town.

Please note that Reddy’s of Carlow closed permanently on 30 November 2025 after more than 250 years of trading. Visitors should not expect to find it open, and any onward listing should reflect that it is no longer in operation.
