Profile
Sha-Roe Bistro is a restaurant on Main Street in the village of Clonegal, County Carlow, in the south-east of Ireland. It occupies a building dating from 1690 that once served villagers and travellers as an inn and pub, connected historically with the nearby Huntington Castle. Henry Stone and Stephanie Barrillier opened the bistro in 2005 following an extensive restoration of the premises.
The kitchen focuses on local, seasonal produce, and the menu pairs Irish classics with contemporary touches alongside Asian- and Japanese-inspired dishes. The restaurant highlights its network of suppliers as part of its emphasis on quality ingredients.
Sha-Roe has been recognised with a number of awards over the years. It was named Best Newcomer of 2007 by Georgina Campbell’s Guide, and held a Michelin Bib Gourmand from 2008 to 2017. Georgina Campbell’s Guide also named it Best Atmospheric Restaurant of 2010 and awarded its Best Chef accolade in 2011.
The bistro sits off the N80 Enniscorthy–Carlow road, around 8 km from Bunclody, making it an easy stop for those exploring the countryside of counties Carlow and Wexford. Visitors are advised to check current opening days and to book ahead, as availability can be limited.
