St Kilian's Heritage Centre

St Kilian’s Heritage Centre is an interpretive centre in Mullagh, County Cavan, dedicated to the life and legacy of St Kilian, the seventh-century Irish missionary traditionally associated with this part of Cavan who became patron saint of Würzburg in Germany, where he was martyred. The centre records and celebrates his story alongside the wider achievements of Irish missionaries who travelled through Europe during the sixth and seventh centuries.

A visit begins with a short audio-visual presentation, available in English, German and Irish, that introduces St Kilian, his work and his martyrdom. The exhibition rooms draw on maps, photographs, statuettes, manuscript facsimiles and art reproductions to bring this period of early Irish church history to life, and a separate local history room reflects the surrounding area.

The centre also houses a craft shop stocking locally produced work and a café serving freshly prepared breakfast and lunch dishes, including vegetarian options. A children’s playground adjoins the site. It is a welcoming stop for anyone interested in early Irish Christianity and the connections between Ireland and continental Europe.
