Suas Climbing Centre

Suas Climbing Centre is an indoor climbing facility at Cloonlara in County Clare, in the east of the county close to the Limerick border. Climber owned and run, it has served the Clare and Limerick area since 2017 and sits within easy reach of Limerick City, the University of Limerick and Ennis. The centre welcomes complete beginners as readily as seasoned climbers, with introductory sessions and belay instruction for those new to the sport.

The roped walls rise to around 10 metres and offer a spread of routes from gentle beginner grades up to challenging climbs, set across top-rope and lead lines. Alongside these, the bouldering area features walls up to about 4.5 metres with everything from easy problems to steeply overhanging angles. Routes are reset regularly, so there is always something fresh to work on whether you climb often or are trying it for the first time.

Beyond casual climbing, Suas runs youth and teen clubs, kids’ camps, coaching programmes, school groups and corporate team-building sessions, and hosts birthday parties. It is also a provider of the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS). After a session, the on-site Suas Café serves barista coffee and hot drinks along with brownies and snacks. It makes for an accessible and social day out for families, groups and individual climbers alike.
