Profile
The Flying Alpaca is a family-run farm near Kilkee on the Loop Head peninsula in County Clare, set in the countryside between Kilkee town and Kilrush. Run by Barbara and Mike, it welcomes visitors to spend time with a herd of gentle, curious alpacas in a relaxed rural setting, with other farm animals such as goats, chickens, ducks and dogs also about the place.
The farm offers a range of pre-booked experiences to suit families and individual guests. These include a short meet-and-greet, where you can feed, pet and photograph the alpacas, and guided alpaca walks, where you choose an animal and take a leisurely stroll around the farm in its company. A fuller experience adds time to learn about how the alpacas are cared for and how their fleece is worked into wool and finished products, and there are also handmade natural soap workshops for those who want to try their hand at something creative.
A visit generally takes between one and two hours, and the farm is a good fit for children and adults alike. Booking ahead is required, so it is worth arranging your visit in advance. The Flying Alpaca sits within easy reach of the wider Loop Head area, making it an easy addition to a day exploring this quiet stretch of the West Clare coast.
