The Gearagh

The Gearagh, in County Cork, is a rare and protected area of ancient alluvial woodland and wetland along the River Lee, west of Cork city near Macroom. Regarded as one of the last inland delta woodlands of its kind in western Europe, it’s a nature reserve of considerable ecological importance, known for its channels, islands and rich birdlife. It’s a quiet, atmospheric spot for walking and wildlife watching. As a sensitive habitat, it rewards a gentle, respectful visit.
