The Long Dock

The Long Dock is a family-run pub and restaurant in the fishing village of Carrigaholt on the Loop Head Peninsula in West County Clare. It sits close to the Shannon Estuary, along the Wild Atlantic Way and on the road towards Loop Head Lighthouse, making it a natural place to stop while exploring this quiet corner of the county.

The premises have a long history, having first opened in 1820, when, like many hostelries of the period, it also served as the local grocery and drapery. Today it is run by Tony and Imelda Lynch and keeps the character of a traditional village bar, with an intimate, welcoming dining room reflecting its roots in the working fishing community.

The kitchen is best known for fresh local seafood, much of it landed only a short distance away. Crab, oysters and mussels feature strongly, prepared simply and served alongside homemade breads. The restaurant has been recognised in a number of food guides over the years, and the Lynches also produce a range of preserves, chutneys and baked goods sold through their adjoining shop.
