The Roadside Tavern

The Roadside Tavern is a traditional pub in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, set in the heart of the Burren and within easy reach of the Cliffs of Moher and Doolin. The pub first opened its doors in 1865 and has been in the hands of the Curtin family since 1893, making it one of the oldest establishments in the region.

Food is central to the tavern’s reputation, with a menu that draws on local County Clare produce. Regional specialities such as Burren Smoked Salmon, Irish beef, Burren lamb and locally made cheeses feature prominently, prepared with an emphasis on quality ingredients and sustainability. The tavern’s approach to seafood and its commitment to sustainable sourcing have both been recognised with awards.

The pub is also home to the Burren Brewery, a micro-brewery established on site by Peter Curtin, where a small range of beers is brewed just above the restaurant. Alongside the food and drink, live music is a regular fixture, with traditional Irish sessions and contemporary performances on selected evenings through the week and a daytime session on Sundays.
