Carlow Brewing Company

Carlow Brewing Company, widely known by its O’Hara’s brand, is one of the pioneers of Irish craft brewing. It was founded in 1996 by brothers Eamonn and Seamus O’Hara and today operates from Muine Bheag Business Park in Muine Bheag (Bagenalstown), County Carlow.

From modest beginnings the company has grown into one of Ireland’s largest and best-established craft breweries, with its beers sold across Ireland and exported to a range of markets. Its line-up includes O’Hara’s Irish Stout, Irish Red, Irish Pale Ale and a variety of other styles, and the wider business has expanded over the years to take in craft ciders and other drinks.

The brewery welcomes visitors for guided tours, which should be arranged in advance by phone or email, as availability can vary. On a tour you can learn about Ireland’s craft brewing story, follow the brewing process from start to finish, and smell the hops and taste the malts before sampling the finished beers in the tasting room. A visit typically takes one to two hours, and booking ahead is essential.
